The Loneliness of the First Time Blogger

Oh, the awkwardness of the first post!

So let's talk about me. That always helps. First of all, I'd like to establish a few things. Are you sitting comfortably? Right then. Here we are:

1) I do realize how late I am to the blogging scene. I KNOW that other people have been doing this since, like, 1998 and that I'm just now jumping on the bandwagon. And I'm sorry. I was like that with Ugg boots too. I didn't actually think about buying a pair until you could get a knock-off version in TJ Maxx for $15, by which time it should have been obvious to me that, hello, I was sort of late to the party.

2) I'm going to try not to think that what I had for lunch today or what I dreamt about last night is of any importance to anyone else. You're going to have to indulge me occasionally though because, you know what, SOMETIMES THAT STUFF IS INTERESTING. Especially if it involves avocadoes.

3) I promise never to refer to my boyfriend, Sean, as The Boyf. Or Boyfs. Or "my honey". Ew. Certainly not that. (We are not the type to call each other "honey." Gross. Mostly we call each other names that aren't really our names---like Martha and Hank or Jeanette and Roger---because for some reason we think it's hilarious. Which it kind of is. They don't even have to be funny names, like Marmaduke or Bernadette. Though HA! Those are actually kind of funny! I'll have to remember those for later.)

4) I feel like I should make it clear that I never actually BOUGHT those Ugg boots. I just thought about it.

5) A few weeks ago, I remembered a random line from a poem that I can't get out of my head. It's a little hokey, yes, but I find that if I repeat it to myself during my moments of crisis--- and I do have many moments of crisis---it works a lot better than deep breaths (risk: fainting) or chanting (risk: people thinking you're insane) or knocking back the wine (risk: indulging in ill-advised karaoke sessions, thinking you can dance, and deciding it's a good idea to talk about politics with people who don't neccessarily share your same beliefs. See also: drunk dialing.) Anyway, the line is this: "whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should." It's from Desiderata by Max Ehrmann.

Told you! Hokey! But also a little reassuring, right?

So anyway. I'm so glad we got to know each other better. I'm feeling less awkward already.

For a long period of time, I referred to them as Uggly boots.

As for you and Sean, may I suggest Beauregard and Herman (Chang)?

I think you would make an excellent Clarissa or a Hermine. You would have to wear silk scarves as Hermine though...

And I don't for an instant believe you left the cookies for the workmen. You ate them yourself, you fiend! And where were mine?

Welcome! I just began in April this year. I too have a tendency to be the last to try out the "IT" stuff and by then it's not cool. But heck, what do I care? I am an Aquarian for God's sake.

Welcome to the blogosphere! I popped over from Que Sera Sera.

I've enjoyed your posts and think your blog is fabulous.

I think the most difficult part is sticking to it... once the novelty wears off (esp. when life tends to get in the way of "free writing time").
