Oh Vancouver, You Shouldn't Have

My own personal boat from the City of Vancouver

I mean, really, naming a boat after me? It's too kind! Honestly, you had me at the winegums.

Mission Accomplished!

And the cupcakes.

(Mmm, cupcakes.)

And the fact that you have Fall:

Which, by the way, is really excellent for leaf fights:

Maybe by the time I come back, you will have painted the extra "S" on, okay? (Or, hey, I know: someone who lives in Vancouver! You up for a dare?)

(PS: I do have actual real things to say about Vancouver, not just a bunch of photos to throw out. I just couldn't stand looking at that Bachelor post another second.)

What beautiful pictures. The 'fall' picture is so pretty, it looks like someone painted the trees!

I need a boat with my name on it. I have boat envy.

So glad that Vancouver put on her good side for you and didn't rain the entire time!

Next time I am in Vancouver, I will paint the 'S' on the HollyBurn (or I am sure one of my friends the next time they are emboldened by wine could be talked into it).

Looking forward to your post.

Looks like you had decent weather for your trip! The boat is too much - but it definitely needs an S on the end. Hmm, I might be there in the spring...

Fall! Vancouver! My heart is there, lying on the streets! Did you find it? Is it still beating? It aches to look at those pictures. Vancouver, you're prettier than the first day we met.

Seriously though I love that town. Hope you did too!

With a name like "Shawnté," I can't even find tacky souvenir keychains with my name printed on them; when I was in grade school, my mom ordered me a custom-made bicycle license plate from a Cheerios order form, just so I could have something with "Shawnté" stamped on it. And here, you get an entire boat!!!

Love the pictures, too! Too bad the boat wasn't small enough to fit in your purse. That'd be an excellent thing to steal and bring home with you. Excellent meaning, totally inappropriate and a bit useless too.

Is it just me, or does the first fall photo remind you of Mary Tyler Moore? Not sure why I think that, since I've never seen the show. Oh well...

You should have totally dared Sean to paint the "S" on the boat.

I love how you always seem to have a little extra "something" in your outfits -- in this case, the adorable red flower pin. Too cute. Now, that's STYLE!

KarinGal: It's not just a red flower pin, it's a poppy pin. In Canada we have those for Remembrance Day (November 11) which honours veterans and civilians who were involved in WWI and WWII (like Veterans Day in the states).
Holly: I am so happy to see you wearing one, it totally brought a smile to my face. Also - wine gums! Eeeee!

Isn't Remembrance Day a Commonwealth* thing? Either way it looks darling on you, Holly. Love the pictures, can't wait to hear more.

* Offensive? No? I don't know....

People also wear poppies in Australia for Remembrance Day.

Holly - I'm stealing your coat next time I'm in San Francisco. It will be a coatnapping of epic proportions. :D

Okay, that's it. Your pictures have made up my mind. After New York, I'm telling my partner our next far-off vacation stop will be Vancouver. He wants to go anyway, but if for some reason he decides to argue for someplace else, I'll trump him by showing him these fabulous pictures.

Well it certainly looks like Van showed you a fabulous time. I was also overjoyed to see you sporting the poppy! If you're ever planning on making the great trip north again you should try out Edmonton. You really can't go wrong with the worlds largest mall and I can vouch for an awesome tea house!

Technically this comment is for the Oct. 27 'This Time Tomorrow' post, but I couldn't bear the idea of being the sixty-bloody-first comment on a post for a blog that's not a) David Carr's or b) mine. Today, it turns out, was supposed to be the day that I return to the US after three months in Japan. Or anyway it's the date I gave United for my return flight, which I've since canceled indefinitely. Frightening? Yes. Insane? Possibly. But the work visa is being processed, and there's so much more of Japan yet to see. The real world can wait a little longer, no? Incidentally, I'm still waiting for my first earthquake here (he said blithely, not realizing he'd just doomed thousands of innocent Japanese people to certain death for a karmic fancy).
BTW, who does your slideshows? I heart them. Have your web designer contact mine, please.

Man you get all the good things - like boats names after you!! Looks like you had a great time - its funny but the poppies in Canada are completly different to the poppies in NZ and OZ - same reason just a dif look

Okay, besides the fact that you're incredibly adorable and photogenic, the boat is cool (although there's a entire town named after my family so there...), the cupcakes look incredibly yummy, etc.

I must know. What are wine gums? Are they actually made from wine? Seriously?

*please* tell me you went to the crisp shop.

Nov 07, 2007

DM -- Wine gums actually used to be made from fermented wine, you know, when they were first invented. (I have no idea when this was: the 18th century? The 19th? At some point when someone realized they had nothing yummy to snack on in front of the DVR-ed Grey's Anatomy?) These days, they don't put wine into wine gums -- and they don't taste anything like wine at all. They taste like little morsels of sugary, chewy, gummy heaven. You MUST try some.

Jill -- We couldn't find the crisp shop!

If you were any more adorable in the leaf pictures, the Internet might....break. We have wine candies down here that *are* made with wine and honestly? BLECH! But the Canadian ones sound like sophisticated sour gummy bears. Mmmm. Glad to hear Vancouver was a success.

PS Am madly jealous that you can eat things like cupcakes and look like that.

That is so awesome that you have a boat named after you (kind of). If I lived in Vancouver, I would totally paint the "s" on for you!

I loved the picture of you frolicking in the leaves. I have a photo of me doing the exact same thing in Connecticut, taken a couple of weeks ago. Your clothes are much cuter than mine were, though. Also, mmmmm, cupcakes.

Portland has all four seasons (mostly), and Saint Cupcake, and (newly) me, and great coffee, and last night Portland had Feist! and I nearly fainted from the sheer awesomeness.

(Glad Vancouver was awesome.)

Hee, the boat is a scream! You have to enlarge and frame one of those photos. BTW, you look more gorgeous than ever, if that's possible. It's obvious you're very happy. You lucky girl!

Ooooh fall in Vancouver!!! I miss it. But I must ask, how did you manage to turn the rain off for your (beautiful) photos? From what I remember it traditionally rains without stopping for the entirety of November. My goodness.
