Why They'll Have To Pry My Cold, Dead Body From The Building

I wanted to tell you all about how much I'm loving my new job, how the people are so great, how it's just so much fun to have structure (and office supplies) in my life again, but I find that all my other thoughts are eclipsed by the fact that today is, apparently, Bagel Friday. Do you know what Bagel Friday is?

BAGELS COME TO THE OFFICE ON FRIDAY. FOR EVERYONE. EVERY SINGLE WEEK.

For some reason, all I see is a big pink block covering most of the text for this entry. Is it just me?

All I can see is "W" and "F" in the left-hand side of the title, plus "is" and "BA" below that. The rest is just pink.

I'm sad. :(

Except now that I've posted that comment, it's all fine and back to normal. Yay!

I had a job at a large financial institution that had elegant cappuccino makers in the coffee rooms and our group had lunch ordered in on Fridays. We could pick what we wanted from all the takeout places in Boston. Imagine that! But then, a simple bagel, ah yeah....

Oh, that is nice. Today we're getting muffins because we're in the middle of what I like to call Tax Hell (if you are going to invest in the stock market, keep your statements people! It says so right on the statement! I don't know what your cost basis is) and every one is a little cranky. I'd rather have bagels but free breakfast food is free breakfast food.

Bagels are groovy. Especially when it's someone else's treat.

And my first thought was, DANG you're up early. Or very, very late on Thursday night (carrying over into Friday morning).

You go, girl.

I really don't miss working in an office and having to wear non-elasticized waisted clothing, but I *do* miss the little perks like bagels, and good coffee, and, uhm...a paycheck.

One of the places I temped at in NY had Bagel Friday, which was AWESOME. Of course, the office was filled with gorgeous, super-skinny girls who would scoop the soft, bready filling OUT of the bagel, and basically eat the chewy bagel husk. It was a travesty and a sacrilege. And also made me feel bad for eating the whole thing, which was BULLSHIT. I mean, Jesus Christ, if you're going to eat a bagel, EAT THE BAGEL.
Yeah, I didn't like working there so much.

What? The bagels just... come? You don't even have to order them? They just... show up?

This is a very excellent job perk.

I teach night classes at a local college and am never there during the day, but today is the birthday celebration of two student assistants and the office is having ice cream cake! Needless to say I have already RSVPed and will be leaving the house shortly. If they had bagels every Friday, I'd be in my office working hard at blog reading so I could have bagel funtime too.

You are lucky they did not inform you of Bagel Friday during the interview process, or you might have ended up paying THEM to employ you. Or maybe that's what I would have done. Anyway, enjoy!

Oh dear, that can be a very bad thing. I have fallen prey to the Bagel Friday, which turned (for me) into a Bagel Monday and then a Bagel Everyday along with a Spiced Chai. Oh dear. Suffice it to say that I have had to work very hard to break that habit.

I am now an apple and slice of homemade bread for breakfast girl. No coffee, tea, juice, or chai. Just water. And I still haven't lost weight.

When I first started at my office, I discovered the joy of Treat Tuesday. There was an organized LIST and every Tuesday someone brought in a treat.

It's kind of petered out here with new management, but I think you should look into instituting it there!

At my husband's job, they buy him lunch almost every. single. day. They claim it's cheaper than the employees taking a lunch hour, and in a week he can have anything from Chinese to Italian to sandwiches to pizza to salad. Yesterday they took his whole team to Benihana, ust for the hell of it. I hate him. (not reallly, but kind of...as I sit here eating leftovers from two days ago).

Oh my god, the spelling errors. It's obviously a sign of my lunchtime office malnutrition.

We have bagels everyday at my work from this company called Blazing Bagels. The woman arrives at 10am and the receptionists make an overhead page. Fresh bagels and home made cream cheese, it's heaven.

It's also pretty funny to hear the receptionists announce Blazing Bagels. Often times it comes out as Bazing Blagels.

Oh, we used to have bagel Fridays. Those were happy carb-o-rific days. I liked how you said bagels come to the office. I picture them walking in all cheerful and ready to be slathered with cream cheese!

And they say civil servants are spoiled. So we get 12 holidays a year...holidays do not taste good with butter or jam.

I do enjoy the extra sleep, though. Yeah, OK...

Seriously - bagels just appear? Like magic? For everyone? Do they bring condiments with them to like cream cheese or peanut butter?

This job just sounds better and better all the time. Congrats again!

Have you met donut Monday and monthly birthday cake? Awesome friends of bagel Friday.
