Splendid Thing: Flula Borg
Cape Town can wait; have you seen these videos by a guy called Flula Borg? I know Flula Borg sounds like the kind of noise you make when you're sneezing really violently—"FLULA BORG!" "Bless you!"—but Flula Borg is actually a semi-famous German guy living in Los Angeles who makes hilarious videos about the weirdness of certain English idioms.
Take this one about the phrase "the proof is in the pudding," for instance:

My current favorite thing in the world is Flula Borg's disgusted reaction to someone asking him if he wants to "shoot the shit":
And Sean and I have been quoting this particularly exasperated one all day. (Seriously, who did name the daddy long-legs the daddy long-legs? And what were they smoking when they did?)
I can't quite figure out if it's an act—or at least kind of an act—but I love every single thing that comes out of Flula Borg's mouth all the same.

But some Germans do indeed call daddy long legs "Opa langbein" (= Grandpa long legs). Maybe it's a regional thing? Either way, both really are ridiculous names for a bug...

This was just what I needed to kick off Friday! Extra funny because my boss is German, and he often questions expressions my colleagues and I use (although, the best one is a German one he translated to English - "when a horse vomits outside of a pharmacy"... kind of like "when pigs fly", only much funnier).

Oh my god I just about DIED watching "shoot the shit" just now!!!! I mean really, assuming it isn't an act, if I seriously thought someone wanted me to come shoot shit in the morning I wouldn't be able to sleep either!
Forget pictures of cute animals to cheer me up on bad days, from now on I'll be watching Flula!

I feel embarrassed a little that he is a fellow German. But certainly yes, he is funny.
What I don't understand though is the last video. The literal translation for Daddy Long-Legs in German is "Grandpa Long-Legs" so what is he going on about?
