Best Thing Ever: Groupon

So we've all heard of Groupon, right? I've become a little obsessed with Groupon, if we're honest. While I couldn't seem to get into Gilt or Ideeli or any of those fancy clothes shopping sites, there was a time earlier this year when I bought a Groupon almost every week. Oh, alright, almost every day.
It works like this. Every morning, you're emailed a new deal; it could be half off a pedicure, or fifty bucks of tapas for thirty, or a ten-dollar ride to the airport. There are something like 80 cities featured, and in addition to checking out the Groupon for San Francisco, I always browse the ones for San Diego (because my parents live there), Los Angeles, (because it's near-ish), New York (because we're there often seeing Sean's family), and any other cities I'm planning on visiting in the next couple of months (you'll often find a good hotel deal.) You've got a day to buy the Groupon---providing enough other people buy it to fulfill the minimum, which usuallly always happens---and, most of the time, a year to use it.
I've bought Groupons for massages, cupcakes, language courses, wine, brunch cruises, flower deliveries, ski tickets, airport shuttles, and lots and lots and lots of pizza. Sometimes a week will go by without me wanting to buy the Groupon; sometimes I'll buy three in a row. I even got my mother into it and she bought a Groupon for the dentist. If you like to score a deal (and trust me, I like nothing more), have a look and see what you think. I guess my only regret is that I didn't think of this first.

Great minds think alike, m' lady...I JUST bought today's Sacramento Groupon (movie tickets/popcorn/drink for $9!)

I've not tried it yet, although I've been tempted a few times. I think I'll have to give it a go.

The feeling is mutual. I think I'm in love with Groupon.

I absolutely adore Groupon. I purchased a complete air conditioning/heating inspection (oh the things that go into home-ownership!) and a photo session with a great photographer for my family. It's so awesome! The past week has been lack-luster, but I know that my next great deal is just a day or so away!

It sounds awesome, but nothing close enough to me to use yet. How do you sign up for multiple cities?
Jun 29, 2010
Alyce, I just went to the page of each city that I was interested in and put my email address into the "Email me _____'s Daily Deal" box at the top.

Okay, marketing geek here. I was just thinking the other day how amazing it is that they have made coupons cool again.
Remember when NO ONE would dare use a coupon at any kind of hip place? I mean, sure, the grocery store or Target--you might have used one there. But not like...the fancy French bistro down the street.
But a Groupon is different somehow.
Kind of an amazing shift. My hat's off to them. Also, thanks for turning me onto it.

Agreed! Groupon is the best thing ever!
I also like living social and if you are in SF there is a higher end one called Bloomspot (I think they are only SF, LA, and maybe NY?).

Thanks for the response, Holly. I swear I clicked on every link except the right one. I am now signed up in a handful of towns. Yay!

Now only if there was a Groupon for free merchandise / services.

Groupn has *just* arrived here in France too and so far so good. Some of the offers have been amazing, half price jet ski trips, 70% off manicures- yay! I have told a whole bunch of friends about it and I'm pretty sure it will be a hit this side of the Atlantic too!

I love Groupon as well, and I've found some killer deals on there. Now I just have to remember to use them, I have a cupcake one just burning a hole in my pocket but no reason to get a full dozen yet. :-)
Also one of my friends works for them (for Seattle) and sings their praises all day long, but for good reason. Because of this she's turned us on to some great restaurants.

Holy moly- I never knew such a thing existed! The problem is, I'll get sucked in to every deal! That is awesome!

I love Groupon!! My mom turned me onto it. I've not bought anything yet, but will in the near future. I can't wait!

This very day we had our whole house cleaned for something like $40 thanks to Groupon. Wooo, what a treat! And a bargain to boot. I can't imagine how a small cleaning company handled the onslaught of over a thousand new Groupon clients, but they did just great!

LOVE groupon. I do the same thing, with checking out the groupons in other cities that we'll be visiting within a few months. And I've even gone a little crazy with logging in EVERY DAY just to get the Groupon Rewards. Obsessive, yes.

Buildings are not very cheap and not everyone is able to buy it. But, personal loans are invented to help people in such kind of situations.

so i know you mentioned not getting into gilt, but i recall that one of your earlier best things ever, or just a line you have raved about in the past - mario badescu - is on sale today at gilt. figured i'd pass that (hopefully valuable) information on. all the best!

Groupon must really be a mixed blessing for a lot of businesses, given how little revenue most of them receive from Groupon and how much strain a Groupon can create in a short period of time.
