You, Me, New York

Are you going to BlogHer? I think we should have a drink together. That's if you want to have a drink with me, of course. Me, I'd love to have a drink with you: I think we could have some pretty good conversations about Tim Riggins if left in a room together with a bottle of wine, although if you switched the topic to nuclear engineering or sixteenth century Renaissance poetry halfway through, I guess I'd probably try and keep up. Don't expect too much, though; I'm much better talking about fictional television characters. I mean, "Jordan Catalano: 1995 Onwards" is pretty much my specialty subject.

Anyway, all this is to say that I'm going to be in New York on Saturday night, and a bunch of us are having a little meet-up in a bar. I'd love to see you there if you wanted to stop in for a drink! It's super low-key: nothing fancier than a couple of drink specials and a few darkened booths, but the BlogHer conference, while a lot of fun, is big and crowded and overwhelming, so if you feel like a brief break from the madness, feel free to come by. Everyone's invited---I mean, come on, it's a bar---and the more the merrier.

Here are the details: The Volstead on Saturday August 7th from 6pm onwards. See, that's pretty easy to remember. I hope I see you there.

(This is a picture of me with a drink in my hand so you will know how to recognize me. Except this is also one of the best hair days I've ever had in my life, so there's absolutely no way I'm actually going to look like this again on Saturday night. Maybe just look for a person who looks kind of like this, except the front part of her hair looks like maybe she thought it would be a good idea to trim her own bangs with the kitchen scissors two days before a large conference, and also her at-home hair color turned out a few shades darker than the stupid lying box promised it would. If you spot her, lean in close and see if she's talking about Jordan Catalano. Yes? Then you found me. Hello.)

I would love to go but I think instead I will create my own conference called BlogHim where the only hair we are concerned about is the kind that grows on your chest and ladies aren't invited.

You should've asked me about the self-bang cutting thing. My friend told me, 'oh, I just trim my own'. So I figured- 'Hey, why not?!'

I'll tell you why not- someone who can't cut wrapping paper in a straight line, shouldn't be cutting their own bangs. I of course did it a few days before going to D.C. for a conference. Sweet.

ps. I wish I was going to blogher. Alas, I'm not. But have a drink (or five) for me!

I am intending on being there, as long as I make a plane. Hopefully I'll see you again :)

Of course I'm out of town this weekend so I'll miss the Catalano chat fest... Perhaps we'll discuss sometime soon in the Bahamas?

Oh boo, I am leaving early Saturday for vacation the one time that you are on my coast (and from what I gather, right in the next town when you visit the in-laws). Not that you care, because I'm just a weirdo stranger who reads your blog, but I was thinking if I had come for a drink, at least I wouldn't be a stranger. Can't promise you wouldn't still think I was a weirdo...Of course this is probably not helping my case. Anyway, enjoy the east coast and Blogher.

Could we actually finally meet in person? If I can free up a bit of my Saturday night, I'll swing by for a toast. We can discuss the Bachelorette finale!

Consumed with regret! Consumed with regret!

Why oh why didn't I get tickets to BlogHer?! Then we could have reenacted this very photo IN NEW YORK.

Sob.

I'll be there! Can't wait to see you and drink with you!

I also just trimmed my bangs myself as well. I did it last week, though, figuring if I effed it up, I had a week to recover some of the length.

That sounds like a lot of fun. Perhaps I can get over my crippling self-doubt and lack of funds for next year's BlogHer. Although I hear most people in attendance are crippled by self-doubt, and muddle through with the help of alcohol. So. Next year it is!

Um, I'm not going to Blogher, but I would be ALL OVER drinkin' and talking about Riggs ANYTIME. Was Friday's episode not the most heartbreaking yet? A real gut wrencher, that one. Have the best time in NYC! Texas Forever.

Technically I'm not attending BlogHer even though it is literally being held across the street from my office but if that isn't a problem with you, I will join you for a drink any way because I've been reading your blog for ages and I would LOVE to meet you! I hope that doesn't sound too stalkerish.

you make me laugh. and wish that i'll be in NY at that bar, on Saturday. But you know, I'm sure I'll have just as much fun at my great-aunt's 60th birthday party. I will, WON'T I?

Holly,

If I were a blogger (and not just someone who reads them when I can't sleep or when I am on the phone with a yappy person at work), I would be thrilled to meet you. You are a delight to read, but even more importantly, you never come off as snooty or overly in love with yourself. You seem to appreciate the dreamy opportunities you have been given, and I am guessing that this quality that makes you a good read also makes you a fantastic drinking partner. Have fun!

Well that does sound lovely. Not that I will be there; I will be in California studying furiously for my PhD exams in two weeks. Which studying (eight months, now) has addled my brain so much that I'm talking to you like you know exactly what I'm talking about. But without sounding like a ridiculous fan-girl, some day I hope to have drinks with you and talk about Jordan Catalano and the Lemonheads and everything else dreamy from the mid-90s and become your one-and-truly-BFF. Well, that ended up sounding fan-girly anyway. Oh well, I blame the brain-addling exams for my total lack of judgment. I also cried at a car commercial the other day, which, really? And then I don't know when to stop talking, either. Brain addled. Exams. Which I hope they accept as an excuse on the actual exams.

I'm in Seattle so can't make it for drinks, but I WILL be in SF in October for the Nike Women's Half Marathon so maybe I'll see you then, ha ha. I really just am here to share this line from an email I got at work today: "The protocol is in tacked and security will be onsite..." This went to pretty much all 35,000 people who work here. Funny (or weird) how i immediately thought of you when I read it.
