All About Barbados

It's been a while since we got back from Barbados and I haven't even told you anything about it. It was---as you would imagine a vacation in Barbados to be, particularly one taken after two weeks of packing and moving and painting---rather fantastic.

For a start, this was our balcony:

And this was the sunset view from that balcony:

And this was the pool where we spent our days:

And this was the other pool where we spent our other days:

And this was the beach where we spent the days that we weren't spending at either of the pools:

Okay, okay, I'll stop. I'm making myself sick.

Sean turned 34 while we were in Barbados and Barbados celebrated by making it rain all day. I read an entire book on Sean's 34th birthday, and Sean watched an entire Yankees game on the Internet. Later, when the rain finally stopped, we went for a walk along the beach and Sean observed the occasion of his 34th birthday by worrying me that he would not make it to his 35th:

(Sorry, Peg!)

(Peg is Sean's mom. I don't think she's going to like this photo at all.)

(Probably not that one either.)

While we were in Barbados, we went diving and I did not throw up. If you remember the unfortunate episode on my honeymoon---wherein I threw up like no-one has ever thrown up before, which is unpleasant enough without having to do it in a full-body wetsuit in the middle of the ocean in front of several perfect strangers and one's brand new husband---you will understand that this was something of a concern. I'm sure you are very pleased.

Also pleased: me. Because I am not throwing up.

Also pleased: Sean. Because I am not throwing up.

I'm sure there is more I wanted to tell you about Barbados, but I can't remember much of it now, probably because it was a fairly fleeting trip and also because 90% of what I did in Barbados was read books and drink beer.

However, I also took lots of pictures---mostly of beaches, spoiler alert!---which you can flip through here if you are so inclined, although I realize that this is basically the 21st century equivalent of setting up a projector in my garage and forcing you to sit in my lawn chairs and look at my vacation slides while eating half-burned Jiffypop. So here, we will end with this one, which is kind of the best one anyway:

Diving! A surefire way to look really, really, really, really unattractive!

I know, right? Screw all those wedding photos, this one's the framer.

Wow! Looks faboo. Where did you stay? We went for our honeymoon in April and we most definitely did not have a pool or balcony like that!
Oh, happy to hear you didn't barf! :0)

Yeah, why can't they make you look better when you're all geared up for diving? In all of my diving photos I look like I have at least two chins and the goggles? Yup, definitely not a good look, lol.

Oh my goodness! Your noses in that last photo are absolutely fantastic! You're so right, absolutely a framer.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it here! The Crane is lovely, huh? I'm quite surprised that they have banned the cliff jumping, we used to do it as kids. Shame. I'll have to go up there this weekend just to stick it to the man. lol

The weather is still.... wet.

This isn't meant to be a snarky comment at all (I promise) and of course, it's up to you whether or not you answer it, but do you guys make a lot of money? I really am just curious. You bought a house in one of the most expensive retail markets in the U.S. and then went to Barbados. Honestly, I'm just *super* curious? Are these trips sponsored? I know people don't like talking about money but hey, just curious! (And anticipating the haters that will come out, yes, I am jealous =)

Allison-she works for the travel industry. As far as I know the trips are part of her job. How awesome is that?
Holly-you are totally making me kick myself for not taking that community education scuba diving class this summer with the trip to Catalina that was on my bucket list. I am telling myself I have to do it next summer when we can afford the $600+ and have not just bought our new house. Besides, I need more flattering photos like that!!! The ones I have snorkeling and tubing look almost identical in chicness.
How did you and Sean get the diving training? Is there a better/cheaper way?

I can't stop laughing at that last picture! The noses! Ha! It sort of looks like you shouldn't be able to breathe. LOL!!

Isn't Barbados fabulous? My Dad lives there, so we visit once or twice a year. It's simply heavenly down there and the locals are SO nice. Did you guys stay at the Crane? Such a beautiful resort

Huh. The beaches really are pink.

This reminds me how badly I need a vacation. Sigh.

Have been checking anxiously to see if you did enjoy your stay here (long time reader/lurker & Bajan local) and am very pleased to see that you did. Sorry about the rain, but it does help keep the island beautiful. We used to jump off the cliff at the Crane all the time as teenagers before the hotel was refurbished...& drink Banks on the beach too!

(ahem) Drinking Banks as strictly over the age limit teenagers, that is... :-)

Wow, what beautiful pictures. I've never been to Barbados. Sounds like a fun place to visit.

Thanks for sharing!

If I didn't like you so much, I'd despise you. For this vacation, alone.

Found you via BlogHer ad on my website.

This trip looks fantastic. My husband and I stopped in Barbados for one day on a cruise this summer, and we seriously talked about not getting back on the ship. It was wonderful!

I'd ask where you stayed but I'll just go dig through your archives. Love your sense of humor.

I just got scuba certified on our Mexico vacation in May. I cannot wait to go diving with my husband. Your trip looks great. How was the "getting there" part of it? When we went to Aruba from the west coast, it was a horrible commute!

Amber, we both got certified at Bamboo Reef here in the city; my training was for work (and so I didn't have to pay for it, luckily!) but Sean's definitely wasn't ANYWHERE near $600. I'd say it was maybe half that? You should check them out, we both loved them.

Christina S -- yes, we stayed at The Crane! I won the hotel stay in a charity auction at work.

Alecia: the "getting there" part wasn't particularly fun; it's a loooong flight from this side of the country and we had more hours at Miami airport than I'd prefer. But it was worth it!

Great to see your pics, looks like a fab trip.
The noses and the plastered down hair kill me in the last shot, definitely a framer!! :)

Thank the gods for vicarious vacationing, or I'd never get to go anywhere!

My other favorite vicarious vacation: Go to Google Earth and use "Street View" to drive up and down streets in places that I wish I could live or visit.

Just last week I went to Australia, Honolulu, and Scotland - all in one night! Saw some amazing stuff, too. It's like a mini-vacation, without the flight time. And it's free!

I should never admit this on the internet, but one of my bank security questions (for online banking) is "Where would you most like to go on vacation?" and the answer is, obviously, Barbados. Please don't tell my bank I told you, but these pics just might have sent me over the edge of disregarding all online security ramifications. Want.
