Worth Every Late Night Of Corner-Rounding, Paper-Cutting, and Ribbon-Tying
It seems so long ago that I used to have to multi-task while watching TV in the evenings: sticking doilies here, trimming paper there, stuffing envelopes until I wanted to tell the envelopes to go stuff themselves, if you know what I mean. Since we've been back from the honeymoon, the most I've done while watching TV---and oh, you'd better believe we've watched show after show after show since we've been back, stretched out like sloths who no longer have to wield scissors or glue guns while keeping half an eye on the plot---is run the Furminator over the cats, and even then only half-heartedly.
We worked hard on this wedding, I'm not going to pretend like we didn't, like it all just fell into place without any effort. For eleven months, we planned and plotted and stuck and stitched and cut and hung and rolled and wrapped, and it wasn't just me and Sean, but my whole family who pitched in and helped; I hardly know where I'd be without them.
And today we finally got to see the fruits of our labor, when our amazing photographers, Erin Hearts Court---whom I really, really, really cannot recommend highly enough if you're in the market for a wedding photographer; not only do they do outstanding work but they're a blast to sit down and have a beer with---sent us the link to the blog post in which they'd posted a huge collection of our wedding photos.
I apologize if you're all weddinged out by now---or at least all weddinged out by my wedding---but it's just so crazy to see everything come together at once, to be able to piece the blur of the day back together into something cohesive and coherent. The day after, Sean and I could hardly even believe what had just happened; the whole thing seemed so weird and surreal, and it had all gone by so quickly that we half imagined we'd dreamed the whole thing up. When the photos from our kind and generous camera-wielding friends started pouring in, we realized, of course, that we hadn't, but there's still something that doesn't seem real about the day until a few weeks afterwards.
Here are a few of our favorites that Erin and Court took:

But if you'd like to see the full set---uh, might want to clear your calendar for the afternoon, there are a quite a few---you'll find them here on their blog.
And speaking of totally surreal experiences, our wedding was also featured on Style Me Pretty today, which was extra-extra-strange for me, since it's the one wedding blog I read obsessively while planning, and it gave me an awful lot of inspiration.
It also gave me an awful lot of panic attacks---"oh god, these weddings are so beautiful, these people are so clever, might as well just have mine in a McDonalds parking lot, get it officiated by Carrot Top, and call it a day"----and I guess I can only say that I hope that our wedding (which you can see featured here, here, here, and here, in four different posts) isn't right this second causing some other girl to clutch at her collar, grip her monitor, and shout FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, I DO NOT NEED ANOTHER CUTE DIY PROJECT, STOP TEMPTING ME, CRUEL TEMPTRESS. And then add it to her Google Docs spreadsheet anyway.

It was so strange to see your faces peering back at me from SMP yesterday. Lovely wedding, lovely photographs, and great descriptions. I totally want to steal at least two of your ideas. Perhaps more.
Sep 23, 2009
Those were lovely photos. My favourite ones are of you and Sean and the turqoise car.
Now I feel all nostalgic about my own wedding.
Sep 23, 2009
What gorgeous photos! Your wedding looked amazing, all those fantastic little details. I love the fact Sean wore turquoise socks!
By the way, who is the cat in the photo? It looks like Charlie's brother!
Sep 23, 2009
what a beautiful wedding! amazing. thank you for sharing the photos with us!
Sep 23, 2009
Ooooooo, those photographs are beautiful, and it was lovely to see all the earlier blog posts and pictures come together in this one set.
Also, love the pashmina idea....lucky guests. :-)
Sep 23, 2009
Yes - thank you so much for sharing the photos - your wedding looked like a truly sweet and beautiful day. I think it's impossible to see the photos and not smile!
Sep 23, 2009
Just came back from SMP and it's just so wonderful, all the details and ideas are so fresh and different and so very you, I love it!
Sep 23, 2009
Amazing wedding. Everything looks so perfect and you both look so happy! Congratulations!
Sep 23, 2009
Love this post - how wonderful for your wedding to be featured so nicely. Something is currently a bit off with getting connected to see your pictures on the photographer's website, so I'll check back on them later. Aren't you glad you made it home from Australia before the red dust storm? Another thing that has worked out perfectly I'd say - ha.

I am getting all teary-eyed. Your photos are absolute magic. You and and your new hubby are so beautifully happy. Congrats!!!
I saw your photos on SMP and I think I am that bride (that you said you once were) that would look at the weddings at SMP and start to have a panic attack. I am 2 months away from mine and yours some how calmed me!! I have a few of the same ideas as you and they all looked so lovely!!
BTW, when your hair was being done? What did you describe that you wanted? I love your hair!!
Congrats again!!!
Sep 23, 2009
I LOVE your photos! I got all misty-eyed halfway through. :)
What will we do now that your wedding is past tense? Sadness.
Sep 23, 2009
Love those cuff links, Sean! Don Draper would be proud.
Sep 23, 2009
THE CAR!!! Holly, you didn't tell us about THE CAR!!!! The MATCHING CAR!!! The bad-ass '57 Chevy that totally went with your earrings, your shoes, and SEAN'S SOCKS!!!! And the border of this blog, come to think of it!
Holy crap, was that cool.
And I think that you need to incorporate that color into the new kitchen design you're coming up with right now.

I am so glad that this wedding turned out so well for you and Sean, what an absolutely dreamy evening! All the hard work and creativity really paid off, and I love how you stated that basically you got the great party with friends and loved ones that you were really looking for, what a great way of describing the perfect wedding.
Sep 23, 2009
The photographer did do an amazing job it is true, but the details that were photographed were brilliant. you and your husband's happiness and all the wonderfully creative details that you put into the wedding and reception floored and delighted the eye.
Sep 23, 2009
Were your invitations featured on another wedding blog awhile back? I'm not engaged or anything, but I read those things like it's my job. I think I first found you after seeing a picture of your LOVELY be-doileyed invitations.
Sep 23, 2009
my favorite of these pictures is the black and white of you both being showered in confetti. That is a framer for sure
Sep 23, 2009
I'm curious about the gorgeous typewriter. I don't remember you posting about that during the planning phase (or did I just forget?). I notice there was paper in there with something on it-was it a particular message to the guests? Or were they invited to type messages to you there?
Sep 23, 2009
Don't worry, I'm obsessed with your wedding too. Also, I really want those shoes!
Sep 23, 2009
Thanks for the enthusiasm, everyone!
To answer the questions:
Helen: the cat is in fact Charlie. My parents looked after our cats for three weeks so they were down in San Diego. Charlie hopped up on my lap while I was getting my hair done.
Katie-Beth: My hair stylist was really great -- she knew exactly what I wanted even when I only described it as "up, but not like prom hair, with a lot of height at the crown and a big swoopy bang, kind of 60s Brigitte Bardot style." You might try those words verbatim and see what happens!
Marcheline: Yep, the car was awesome. It belonged to this really great man called Cory who was this 50s rockabilly guy with leopard-print shoes. I put an ad up on Craigslist looking for a classic turquoise car and his friend emailed me saying she knew just the guy. He just collects cars for a hobby and he was so gracious about driving us.
Hanni: Yes, our invitations were featured on iDIY blog in August. The post is here: http://www.i-do-it-yourself.com/2009/08/diy-travel-inspired-invites-holl...
Loonytick: I got the turquoise typewriter for $15 on Craigslist a couple of years ago, after someone who reads this blog, actually, emailed me and said "I know this is crazy, but I thought you'd like this." It actually belonged to a man in Charleston, where we'd just moved from, and it turned out he lived next door to one of my friend's parents! Small world. We used the typewriter in the weddding by putting it on my old writing desk, next to a vintage suitcase holding black and white postcards from 50s and 60s Europe. In the typewriter was a typed sign that said "Please choose a postcard and share your fond memories of the past, your well wishes for the future, or a piece of marriage advice you'd like to pass along." People wrote their postcards (in pen, not on the typewriter!) then left them for us to read the next day.

Gorgeous photos - I can't get enough of your wedding! I'm curious aobut the tag with your name on it (next to the salted caramels on Erin Hearts Court). Is that actually written in two different ink colors, or is it just an illusion? I'm mystified!
Sep 23, 2009
Hmm, I think it's just an illusion. I only wrote the place cards in black ink.
Sep 23, 2009
WEEP! All so lovely! So happy for you, Holly. Your wedding was gorgeous and I'm sure that's because it was a reflection of the love you have for one another! I love how involved the family was too!
Congrats!!
Sep 23, 2009
Holly, I know you're well-established as a married woman by now ;) but I was out of the country on vacation when you were getting married and wanted to wish you and Sean a belated CONGRATULATIONS! the photos are absolutely lovely and it looks like you both had an amazing day. thank you for sharing it with us.
p.s. if you need inspiration for your next big trip, consider Indonesia... I just spent two weeks sailing around Bali and other islands and it was absolutely incredible.
Sep 23, 2009
Amazingly beautiful wedding! And what a gorgeous couple. Love your blog and loved reading about this wonderful affair:)
Sep 23, 2009
Beautiful! I did the same for my flowers (hydrangeas in mason jars), for my wedding this past Saturday!
Sep 23, 2009
Gorgeous pictures of a gorgeous wedding! I am in awe that you did all of that without hiring a million people, it came out wonderfully, every little detail!
Sep 23, 2009
Your wedding was gorgeous! I got engaged in May and uh, have kind of been avoiding the whole wedding planning thing.
The wedding-related posts you've made over the months have been the nudge I need to get planning though (I've probably said this before but I sort of fell in love with your invitations), and your feature on Style Me Pretty is totally inspirational.
I'm freaking out about how I'll get mine planned on time (total lack of resources on how to do an Iranian-Italian-American-Muslim-Agnostic-interfaith-intercultural wedding), and I usually freak out when I see other people's perfect weddings, but seeing yours has made me feel calmer about it all. Perhaps because you've documented the whole thing as you go along? I dunno, but it sure has helped. You guys did an awesome job.
Sep 23, 2009
Oh my gosh. I have just discovered your blog and I just know I'll be back over and over and over again from here on out. I'd love to share a cupcake with you and chat. I think we share similar conversational style (or at least inner thoughts, ha ha ha) :O)
Sep 23, 2009
Gorgeous photos of a stunning wedding, you've given me so much inspiration for my own wedding in May! And your dress is *just* the style I'm after, where did you find it? (And are they available in Scotland?) And how jealous am I that you went to Vanuatu! I've wanted to go there since I did a school project on it way back when... did it live up to expectations?
Most importantly though, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know: Did the Obamas show up!? : )
(First comment, although I've been reading for ages, and it's a novel!)
Sep 23, 2009
Please, please, PLEASE tell me where you got the flower for your hair at the reception!!! I think your sister had one in her hair also? I am on the hunt for the perfect hair accessory and that might just be it!
Sep 23, 2009
The photo of you walking down the aisle with your dad is my favorite. The expressions on both your faces are awesome. But there's something about his: sweet, wistful, happy, sad... Just beautiful.
Sep 23, 2009
Absolutely beautiful. Really, I've made the comment on another post but your wedding looked amazing.
Sep 23, 2009
You truly, truly, truly had the most beautiful wedding I've ever seen! What an inspiration...even though I've got no plans to get married any time soon! Congrats!
Sep 23, 2009
IamWAN, my sister and I had different flowers in our hair, but I got both on Etsy.
Mine was from a seller called Ms. Christa, whose store is here: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5325142
And Susie's is from a seller called Blissful Moments, and her store is here: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6497123
Good luck!
Sep 24, 2009
I'm crying!
Your photos are gorgeous and gah, I'm speechless. You did such a fantastic job with all of the wedding details it makes me want to have another wedding just to do all of the fun projects again. :)
Congrats!
Sep 24, 2009
Stunning! And obviously worth every second you spent planning and fussing over the details. You both look so happy and relaxed and thrilled...way to go and congrats!
Sep 24, 2009
Thank you so much -- You have just made my wedding so much prettier :)
Oct 23, 2009
thank you for sharing .

Looks like such an amazing day. Where are your earrings from? They are divine.
Jan 22, 2010
love your wedding and every single little detail!! I'm wondering if you have a source for vintage postcards or did you collect them on your travels? Everything was absolutely beautiful!
Aug 24, 2010
I LOVE your earings. Where did you get them from? You have really inspired me to be more creative with my own wedding. I too am a Brit marrying an American - so I am looking forward to bringing a little bit of England to my Newport wedding.
